Charlie Buhecker is a resident of Danbury Massillon.

Danbury Senior Living is home to so many extraordinary residents, all who have an amazing story to share.

Recently, Sara, a Danbury employee had the opportunity to sit down and speak with Charlie Buhecker, a resident of Danbury Massillon.

Charlie was born in Canton, Ohio, where he was loved and taken care of by his mother and father. Growing up, Charlie was as an only child and although he wished he had siblings, he did enjoy all the quality time he got to spend with his parents. He also enjoyed spending time with his aunt and uncle who lived in Massillon, Ohio. During his visits they would attend sporting events which Charlie loved, turning him into a Massillon Tiger fan. For the first 12 years of Charlie’s life, his family lived in Canton, Ohio. Then one day his parents decided they wanted a change and they moved into a beautiful home in Massillon, Ohio. Charlie, already a Massillon Tiger fan, was very happy about this move.

Throughout Charlie’s childhood his family enjoyed going on vacations. His favorite vacations they went on were their trips to Canada. Charlie and his family would pack the car, drive up to Canada, and spend a week, fishing, camping, and cooking out. Those were some special days and memories with his family that he will forever cherish.

When Charlie was in high school he found a great interest in helping out during school events and sporting games. He would make sure all of the electrical systems were working properly. For example, during a choir performance or a Friday night football game he was up in the booth making sure all the lights and sounds were good. Being able to help out gave him great satisfaction.

After graduating from high school, Charlie attended a 2-year business school in Canton, Ohio. During his college years, Charlie not only learned a lot about business, but he met a beautiful young woman. The two of them decided to get married after graduation and this made Charlie very happy. Soon after getting married, Charlie enlisted into the Air Force. He enlisted on a Friday and then was drafted that following Monday. He spent 4 years in the Air Force and looking back Charlie is proud to have served his country and everything he had learned.

Once he returned home from the Air Force a lot of good things happened to Charlie. He found a great job at Ohio Power in Canton where he worked for 27 years as a supervisor for the Accounts Payable department. He also became a father to two boys who he is very proud of today. Besides his family, the next thing Charlie loves the most is being a Massillon Tiger fan. He has been a season ticket holder since 1962 and he still attends all of Massillon’s home football games. When Charlie’s sons were in high school they were a part of the Massillon Tiger’s swing band and Charlie served as the president of the band organization. Looking back, Charlie is proud of his family and for his contributions to the organization.

As the years went on, there came a time for Charlie to find a new home. He was in search for a senior living facility that was not only local but offered everything he was looking for. This is how he found Danbury of Massillon. After touring the facility and meeting the staff, Charlie knew this was the perfect place for him. He has now been a part of the Danbury family for the last 5 years. His favorite thing about living at Danbury is being surround by caring, loving people. Charlie is thankful to have found an amazing place to call home. If you ever have the chance to meet him make sure to ask about his collection of car models and Snoopy memorabilia.
